Understanding & Technique

For the longest time the real challenge with long toss has been...
  1. To accept that any throwing by pitchers from other than 60' is beneficial.
  2. To get those stuck on 120' programs to understand the real math behind long toss and the need for greater distances.
  3. To understand that throwing for a distance - for pitchers - requires technique that is not always the same as for outfielders, but isn't all that different either.
This section pulls the theory and instruction on long toss together and relies heavily on the approach used very successfully by Alan Jaeger. We thank him for contributing articles and for reprint permission of his ideas that have also appeared elsewhere.

Note: Not everyone agrees with more intense training, especially at younger ages.  See the 'reaction' article "Too much too soon?"

(Other articles by Alan can be found in the section.)
