To the Next Level
Sharp students of this lesson series might have noticed we haven't discussed the head or shoulders yet. It's not because they aren't important. It's not because they aren't involved until the end. But we've been working from the ground up, and you'll have a better appreciation of the importance of the upper body when you understand what's happening underneath.

Before we get into that in detail, let's dispel a myth...
the concept of "keeping the shoulders level".

It's certainly possible to do, and many have taught it at times (including, we admit, coaches involved with WebBall). But level shoulders take away a significant amount of power on contact. If you try to keep the shoulders level with the ground mid-swing, then you force the arms to drop, the shoulders to pull forward, or the elbows to extend early. You're also more likely to have a down and up swing - not keeping the bathead in the zone for nearly long enough.
