To the Next Level
This lesson could be summed up in one short quotable paragraph...
"The only mechanical point worth mentioning is the stiff front leg - with the heel on the ground. If you see legs go to jelly on a curveball - then the heel was probably not down."
You could stop reading this page right there and the lesson would be complete. But we have seen enough questions and arguments over the years to know that a good segment of the playing and coaching audience will want more, lots more.

Also, as you'll see in a subsequent lesson on lower-body triggers, the more important concern might be what the stride allows the hips to do - or what it keeps them from doing.

Remainder of this page includes all 12 strides explained and animated - available to Team Player members only. Please login or join.

Full disclosure: Please note that in the descriptions for each of the 12 animations available to Team Players there are references to Bonds-like or Sosa-like swings, etc. That "like" is there for a reason. Our motion-capture data of these strides is derived from elite players mimmicking the pros mentioned by name. Which might explain why all batters are shown from the left while some of the named players bat right. (Yes we could have flipped some over, but for this lesson the standard format helps make the point.)
